Xbox Cloud Gaming is coming to more Fire TV devices today, with Microsoft’s Xbox app launching on the newest Fire TV 4-Series and Fire TV Omni QLED Series. The cloud gaming app was first made available on Fire TV Stick 4K media players and the 3rd-gen Fire TV Cube last year.
“Fire TV customers are embracing cloud gaming in record numbers,” Amazon said today without mentioning any data to back up that claim. (Update: Amazon reached out to me say that “cloud gaming usage on Fire TV more than doubled this year compared to last year”). “Whether you’re seeking an affordable alternative to buying a console or want the simplicity of games built right into your TV, Fire TV delivers gaming convenience without the extra hardware,” the company added.
The Xbox app for the Fire TV platform is currently available in 29 countries, and it recently launched in two big markets, India and Brazil. Cloud gaming enthusiasts with compatible Fire TV smart TV models just need to download the Xbox app from the Amazon Appstore, sign in with their Microsoft account, and browse the library of games available across the different Game Pass tiers. A compatible Bluetooth controller, such as the Xbox Wireless Controller, is also required to play cloud-enabled Xbox games.
Amazon has its own alternative to Xbox Cloud Gaming with Luna, which was recently relaunched with a collection of social party games that can be played using a smartphone as a controller. Prime members can currently access over 50 games on Amazon Luna, including some blockbuster titles such as Hogwarts Legacy, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance II.
Update 5:30PM ET: Amazon informed me that cloud gaming usage on Fire TV devices more than doubled in 2025 compared to last year, I have added this information to my article.
