Gurman: Apple’s Mac Pipeline Includes M6 Mac Mini and A19 Pro MacBook Neo

Apple is preparing to refresh its Mac lineup with newer M-series chips this fall, and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman just revealed more details about the company’s product pipeline. The first Mac models to be upgraded with an M6 chip are the base 14-inch MacBook Pro and the 24-inch iMac, with both models likely coming later this fall. The iMac hasn’t been updated in two years, and it still uses M4 chips from 2024.

Gurman previously reported that Apple is planning to redesign its high-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with touch-enabled OLED screens, with a possible late 2026 release. However, the first-generation of these redesigned MacBook Pros will reportedly use this year’s M5 Pro and Max chips. According to Gurman, Apple chose to skip high-end versions of its M6 chip to prioritize the development of M7 Pro and M7 Max chips, which are expected to make their debut in new MacBook Pro models between the end of 2027 and early 2028.

Apple’s M6 chip will still come to other Mac models, including a new Mac mini. The MacBook Air, which Apple usually refreshes in the spring, is also a good candidate. Apple usually refreshes its MacBook Air in the spring, right after shipping its new M-series chip in the base 14-inch MacBook Pro in the fall.

With no M6 Pro chip in development, Gurman expects the Mac Mini to also be available with an M5 Pro chip as an alternative to the M6. As for the more powerful Mac Studio, it should be upgraded with this year’s M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips. However, Gurman said that memory supply issues are likely going to affect the refresh cycle for the two desktop Mac models, which have become popular for running AI workloads locally.

Gurman also reported today that Apple’s entry-level MacBook Neo will be updated with more memory. The current model is restricted to 8GB, which is enough for supporting Apple Intelligence features, but doubling the amount of memory will help to future-proof this Model. In addition to memory upgrades, the MacBook Neo will get the A19 Pro chip currently used in the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air. According to Gurman, Apple plans to “refresh the machine periodically with new colors to capitalize on its broad appeal.”.

Lastly, Gurman mentioned today that the MacBook Air and iMac will also be updated with OLED screens at some point. The next Apple product to be updated with an OLED screen is the iPad Mini, and Gurman expects to see it launch later this fall.
