Apple’s iPad Mini Will Reportedly Get an OLED Screen This Fall

Apple’s iPad mini could soon get its first big update in years with a new OLED screen and other design changes. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who previously shared some details about the redesigned mini tablet back in October, is now reporting that it may launch in October.

The iPad mini was last updated in October 2024 with an A17 Pro chip that enabled support for Apple Intelligence features. However, the tablet, which used to start at $499, saw its price increase to $599 last month due to rising memory and storage costs. “The presence of an OLED screen on the iPad mini has the potential to make that version even pricier,” Gurman wrote today.

In addition to this new OLED display, Gurman previously reported that the new iPad mini model may introduce a water-resistant design and a new speaker system. The smaller form factor still has its fans, even though the 8.3-inch display on the iPad mini isn’t that much bigger than current iPhones. However, Gurman pointed out that the iPad mini can serve as an alternative to the now-discontinued iPod Touch, and it may also be an interesting choice for parents looking for a small tablet for their kids.

Just like the iPad mini, Apple’s entry-level iPad also doesn’t get refreshed every year, but Gurman believes that a new version is coming in the first half of 2027 along with new iPad Air and iPad Pro models. With its A16 chip, the entry-level iPad is the last model on the lineup to not support Apple Intelligence features. That should finally change next year, just in time for the rollout of Apple’s long-awaited Siri AI.
