Google Unveils Fitbit Air Special Edition Pokémon Sleep

Google unveiled today a Special Edition Pokémon Sleep version of the Fitbit Air, its screenless fitness tracker that launched in May for $99. The new special edition Pokémon Sleep version is available for pre-order today for $129.99, and it comes with a custom-designed band and integrates with the Pokémon Sleep app.

By default, the Fitbit Air comes with a micro-adjustable band made from recycled polyester and elastane. Google already made a water-resistant and sweatproof version of that band that was available exclusively with the Special Edition Stephen Curry Fitbit Air. The blue Special Edition Pokémon Sleep band is more basic, but it features a custom silk-print label of Sleeping Pikachu.

As for the Pokémon Sleep integration, it will use sleep data from the Google Health app to unlock rewards in the game. I’m not really familiar with it, but enjoying longer quality sleep will attract Pokémon with rest habits similar to yours in the Pokémon Sleep app. “The longer you rest, the more you discover,” Google explained.

Just like the regular Fitbit Air, the Special Edition Pokémon Sleep model comes with a 3-month trial of Google Health Premium, which unlocks the AI Coach in the app. I previously reviewed the Fitbit Air, and I generally liked how the AI coach uses your health metrics to provide personalized fitness recommendations, but I still wouldn’t call it a killer feature.

The Fitbit Air is a great fitness tracker for people looking for simple device with week-long battery life that doesn’t constantly ditract them with notifications. This new Special Edition Pokémon Sleep model seems targeting Pokémon fans aged 13 or more, and it will start shipping on September 15.
