Microsoft has now fixed the bug that caused its Copilot app to be uninstalled on Windows 11 and Windows 10 PCs. The company acknowledged the issue earlier this week and said that it was working on a fix, but only Windows 11 and Windows 10 users who installed the March 2025 Patch Tuesday updates could be affected and see their Copilot app disappear.
The release notes for the security updates have now been quietly updated (via The Verge) to mention that Copilot should no longer be unintentionally uninstalled and unpinned from the taskbar. “This issue has been fixed, and the affected devices are being returned to their original state. You can also reinstall the app from the Microsoft Store and pin it to the taskbar,” the company said.
The Copilot for Windows app now comes preinstalled on Windows 11 and Windows 10, and it provides access to the consumer version of the AI assistant. The app already went through multiple redesigns, and the latest version that’s now available for Insiders added a new press-to-talk feature.
To make things a bit more confusing for Windows users, Microsoft recently rebranded its Microsoft 365 app (previously named “Office”) as “Microsoft 365 Copilot.” However, if this app also provides access to Microsoft’s AI chatbot, it doesn’t have the voice capabilities and “Think Deeper” features that the main Copilot app now offers without any usage limits.
