DuckDuckGo Brings GPT-5 mini to Duck.ai

DuckDuckGo has updated Duck.ai, its free, private, and anonymous AI chat service, with support for OpenAI GPT-5 mini and real-time web access.

“OpenAI’s GPT-5 mini has replaced o4-mini in our Duck.ai lineup,” a DuckDuckGo representative told me. “As OpenAI’s next-generation fast reasoning model, it is more capable and improves on o4 mini with clearer, more well-formatted answers. GPT-4o mini is still available on Duck.ai, along with Llama 4 Scout, Claude Haiku 3.5, and Mistral Small 3.”

Also new: Three Duck.ai models–GPT-5, GPT-4o mini, and Anthropic Claude Haiku 3.5—now have real-time web access so that they can anonymously answer timely queries with the latest information. Duck.ai will automatically search the web as you chat when needed, and the results will link to the sources so you can learn more. There’s also a dedicated “Search” button so you can get those sourced answers at any time.

DuckDuckGo launched Duck.ai this past March after several months of beta testing. It’s integrated with the company’s DuckDuckGo browser but is accessible to anyone for free on the web from any browser and provides free, anonymous access to popular AI chatbots. It’s also improved a lot in just a few months, with DuckDuckGo adding model switching capabilities and personalization features recently.

You can learn more at Duck.ai.
