A new Samsung survey shows that AI has already revolutionized mobile, it’s just that most users don’t even realize it happened. The point? The public’s perception of AI hasn’t caught up with reality. Maybe someone should tell Dell.
“AI is already embedded in everyday mobile phone experiences, with 90 percent of Americans using AI features, often without realizing it,” the Samsung announcement notes. “Samsung has been integrating mobile AI for years, focusing on practical benefits that enhance daily life. Galaxy AI now reaches more than 400 million devices globally, with strong engagement across flagship devices.”
The Samsung survey shows that 90 percent of Americans are using AI on their phones, though only 38 percent realize it. This speaks to the point I make about Copilot+ PCs and AI in general: Because there is no single big “killer app” but rather hundreds of individual new features across devices and the web, the perceived value of these advancements isn’t well understood. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t real.
According to Samsung, the biggest but largely unknown UI cases on mobile include weather alerts (42 percent), call screening (35 percent), autocorrect (34 percent), voice assistants (26 percent), and auto brightness (25 percent). And one in five smartphone users regularly use AI-powered camera features such as Night Mode (19 percent) and auto-generated slideshows (20 percent) to capture and view their photos.
The survey shows that its customers are more interested in AI’s ability to save them time, a point I made a year ago, simplify tasks, improve skills, and help them learn new things. And they want personalized experiences and helpful suggestions.
“As far as the mobile AI experience has come, this is truly just the beginning,.” Samsung adds. “The future is more conversational, more personalized, and even more helpful.”
