Alexa+ is Now Generally Available in the US, Chat Experience is Now Free

Alexa+ generally available US

Amazon’s next-gen Alexa+ is now generally available in the US, and the chat experience is now free on the web and the Alexa mobile app. To get the full Alexa+ experience on all devices, including Amazon’s Echo speakers and smart displays, you’ll either need an Amazon Prime subscription or pay the company $19.99/month.

“Alexa+ builds on what customers have always loved about Alexa, but it’s also completely new and significantly more capable—it’s smarter, more conversational, more personalized, and can get a wide range of things done on your behalf,” Amazon said today. With new agentic capabilities, Alexa+ can now book reservations, taxi rides, and more. The assistant can also help users manage their to-do lists and calendars, control their smart homes, and it can remember context from previous conversations.

If you have an Amazon Prime subscription, Alexa+ is now available for your whole household on the web, the Alexa mobile app, and Alexa-enabled devices. To upgrade to Alexa+, you’ll need to say “Alexa, upgrade to Alexa+” or enable the next-gen assistant on Alexa.com.

The new Alexa web portal and the Alexa mobile app are where all US users without Prime or the $19.99/month Alexa+ subscription can try the next-gen assistant for free. “This experience features a text-based chat interface to get quick answers, plan, research, and explore new topics. Access to the free Alexa+ experience will be limited based on use,” Amazon said today.

While Alexa+ is now generally available in the US, the early access program is now available in Canada and Mexico. Amazon has yet to say when it plans to bring its next-gen assistant to more markets.
