Amazon is starting to roll out a new system-wide Dark Mode on its Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, its top-of-the-line e-reader with stylus support priced at $629.99. Panos Panay, SVP of Devices and Services at Amazon, announced the news on LinkedIn today alongside the launch of a new Smart Shapes feature for stylus users.

“We’re rolling out system-wide Dark Mode, so you can now use Dark Mode anywhere on the device. On Home, in the Library, in your Scribe Notebooks, and of course, in books. You can also customize where and when you use it,” Panay explained.

Amazon’s Kindle Colorsoft uses an in-house 11” display technology and rendering engine to improve eye comfort and provide a fluid writing experience. The new dark mode should help to make the device even more comfortable to use, and there’s also an auto-adjusting front light for people using the device in a darkened room.

The new Smart Shapes feature that Panay also mentioned today will allow Kindle Scribe users to add structured lines, arrows, circles, triangles, and rectangles to Scribe notebooks directly from the toolbar. It will be available on all Kindle Scribe models, including the original Kindle Scribe with a non-color display.

“The goal isn’t just to build something great once. It’s to keep improving it in ways that matter to customers,” Panay also said today.
