Alexa+ Launches on Fire TV Devices Outside of the US

Amazon’s Alexa+ assistant is now available on Fire TV devices outside of the US. That includes the UK, Canada, Mexico, Italy, Germany, Austria, and Spain, where Alexa+ recently launched in early access.

Aidan Marcuss, Vice President of Fire TV, Advertising, and Appstore at Amazon, said yesterday that customers are “loving” the new Alexa+ experience on Fire TV. “Since launching in the U.S., they’re talking to Alexa+ on Fire TV 2.5x more than they did with the original Alexa. And the way they’re using it has shifted — pulling up their Ring camera, asking “who is that actor?” mid-movie, having real back-and-forth conversations. That’s exactly what we designed for,” the exec wrote on LinkedIn.

Alexa+ launched on Fire TV devices in the US last year. It can help users find content to watch, share stats from a live sports game, and jump straight to a specific scene in Prime Video movies. The next-gen assistant can also be used to manage smart home devices, create slideshows of photos stored on Amazon Photos, and generate unique screensavers with AI.

Outside the US, Alexa+ is free to use during the early access period and will then be offered at no additional cost to Prime subscribers. The assistant is also available on Amazon’s Echo speakers and smart displays, as well as the Alexa mobile app. In the US, Amazon also made the chat experience free to access on alexa.com, but this web app isn’t widely available yet.
