Apple Launches 16-inch Macbook Pro With Magic Keyboard, Upgraded Speakers

It’s been a long time coming, but the 16-inch MacBook Pro is finally here. After months of wait, Apple is today announcing the brand new 16-inch MacBook Pro.

Apple’s new 16-inch MacBook Pro will be replacing the company’s 15-inch MacBook Pro, and it comes with some key improvements to the MacBook Pro hardware.

First things first, the new MacBook Pro comes with a new keyboard design. Apple is finally getting rid of its butterfly keyboard design, replacing it with a new scissor-switch keyboard design that’s more reliable than before and offers 1mm key travel. The new keyboard design is being called the “Magic Keyboard”. The new design also brings back the physical Esc key, which sits next to the Touch Bar. “The new Magic Keyboard also features a physical Escape key and an inverted-“T” arrangement for the arrow keys, along with Touch Bar and Touch ID, for a keyboard that delivers the best typing experience ever on a Mac notebook,” says Apple.

The new MacBook Pro also has a bigger display than the previous 15.4-inch model. The 16-inch Retina display panel on the new MacBook Pro offers a resolution of 3072×1920 pixels, P3 wide color gamut and 500 nits of brightness.

Performance-wise, the new MacBook Pro features the 9th gen Intel processors, and you can get up to an 8-core processor, up to 64GB of RAM, up to 8TB of SSD storage (largest ever in a notebook), and the Radeon Pro 5000M graphics with up to 8GB of VRAM. To drive all that power, the new MacBook Pro comes with a 100-Wh battery.  The device also features the “most advanced thermal architecture” ever in a Mac notebook, allowing for a 28% increase in airflow.

The new device also features louder speakers, thanks to the new six-speaker sound system, and studio-quality mics that are apparently capable of rivalling the “popular professional-grade” microphones.

Apple’s new 16-inch MacBook Pro will start at $2,399. You can pre-order right now.

    1 mm travel.. not enough??

I automatically become skeptical of any product that gets released and they have to use the word magic to describe or name it.

I hope that the keyboard issues are in the past for Apple, as their customers deserve better.

I'm typing this on a 2014 15" MacBook Pro that has served me faithfully for the last five years... I will upgrade to this new 16" MacBook having completely skipped over the bad keyboard era... However .. I must state .. that my daughter's both have a 12" MacBook and they never had any problems with their keyboards.. They eat in front of them and worse still .. put on make up. It was never the keyboard that kept me from updating.. It was having a fast and functional 15" MacBook Pro that still worked great that kept me from updating.

But .. the time has FINALLY come. Here's to another 5 years!!

Phil Shiller calling children stupid if they don't use an iPad and new the "Magic" keyboard. F*** you apple. You finally jumped the shark. Congratulations.

With the exception of a 720p webcam in 2019, this is exactly the laptop I wanted. Just ordered and hopefully here before Thanksgiving. Will be a nice upgrade from the standard config 2017 model.

How do you justify that price?

        In reply to Siv:

I don’t have to justify the price, I just have to be able to afford it.

That said, the 16” offers significantly more hardware for the money than the 15” released just 6 months ago. RAM and SSD upgrades are much cheaper as well.

Apple products are not inexpensive, but to me they offer fair value.

    Haven't checked any articles yet..

Did they go for a rounded corner approach like the ipad 11" pro?

I have had bad experiences with product that have the word "Magic" in their description.

I'll try this in a store as soon as possible. If the keyboard is "normal" I might go back to a Mac after three years

Seems like they wanted to do something besides just update the keyboard and overall they did good esp with keeping the price the same.

    "Magic Keyboard"?

OK, forget them dropping the headphone plug, creating that straight line really is a case of Apple being brave.

The most surprising new feature of the 16" Macbook Pro, to me, is the new and improved Speakers. The Macbook has the de facto standard for laptop speakers. Nothing else even comes close. Super excited to try it.
