Apple’s iPhone 15 Lineup Could Be More Expensive

Apple iPhone event Tim Cook

The upcoming iPhone 15 lineup is expected to be the biggest upgrade in years. All models are expected to introduce USB-C ports for charging, but once again, the iPhone 15 Pro models should get more noteworthy upgrades compared to the iPhone 15.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman is reporting that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will see their bezels shrink from 2.2 millimeters to just 1.5 just millimeters. This will be made possible by the low-injection pressure over-molding technology that Apple previously used to increase the size of the display on the Apple Watch Series 7 back in 2021.

Gurman also expects the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max to introduce a more durable and premium-looking titanium frame, while the phones’ internals should be redesigned to improve repairability. The reporter also expects major camera upgrades with “a much wider range of optical zoom on the largest model.”

The iPhone 15 will reportedly get more modest updates, including the A16 chip that powers the current iPhone 14 Pro lineup. The iPhone 15 is also expected to replace its notch with the new Dynamic Island that made its debut on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max last year.

If you’re looking to upgrade to the latest iPhones this year, you should probably expect some price increases according to Gurman. As a reminder, the current iPhone 14 starts at $799 in the US while the iPhone 14 Pro starts at $999.

“I would look out for at least minor price increases across all four models outside of the US. I also wouldn’t rule out a price increase in the US — at least for some of the pro models — given the move to titanium and the costlier camera system on the iPhone 15 Pro Max,” Gurman explained.

Apple should unveil its iPhone 15 lineup if September if the company sticks with its usual schedule. We should also see two new Apple Watch Series 9 models and a second-generation Apple Watch Ultra during Apple’s upcoming hardware event.
