Apple Will Reportedly Launch New Macs Later This Month

Apple is reportedly planning to launch a couple of new Mac models before the end of October. In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that the iMac, which hasn’t been updated since the launch of the first M1 model in April 2021, should be one of the models to be refreshed.

The report doesn’t say if the updated 24-inch iMac will come with last year’s M2 chip or a brand-new M3 chip. The M1 and M2 chips made their big debut in new MacBook Air models, but Gurman doesn’t expect the M3 MacBook Air to be released until 2024.

According to Gurman, Apple initially planned to launch a bigger M2-based iMac Pro before upgrading the 24-inch iMac, but that didn’t happen. Instead, the company released the powerful Mac Studio and the Apple Studio display. However, Gurman believes a larger iMac Pro with a 32-inch display is still coming, though we may not see it until late 2024 or 2025.

In addition to a new iMac, Gurman also pointed out that the 13.3-inch MacBook Pro and the 14-inch and 16-inch models are currently in short supply. While the 13.3-inch model was last updated with an M2 chip in July 2022, Apple released new M2 Pro and M2 Max versions of its 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros in January. “An additional update the same year would be unusual, but not inconceivable,” Gurman wrote.

According to the report, Apple’s new Mac models could be announced on either October 30 or 31, right ahead of Apple’s quarterly earnings on November 2. Last week, the company announced a new USB-C Apple Pencil via a simple press release, and the company will likely do the same with this new Mac announcement.
