Apple released new updates for all of its software platforms yesterday. iOS 17.1 and iPadOS 17.1 are now available on iPhones and iPads, and macOS Sonoma 14.1, watchOS 10.1 are also available.

iOS 17.1 and iPadOS 17.1 bring new features for Apple Music, such as the ability to add songs, albums, and playlists as favorites. Every playlist also now displays song suggestions that match the vibe of other songs in the playlist.

Apple is also improving AirDrop, its proprietary technology for transferring content between Apple devices in close proximity. Now, content will continue to transfer via the Internet when users step out of AirDrop range.

iPadOS 17.1 is introducing support for the new USB-C Apple Pencil that the company announced last week. The $79 accessory looks a lot like the 2nd gen Apple Pencil, but it lacks support for pressure sensitivity and wireless charging.

For Mac users, macOS 14.1 brings the same new features for Apple Music, and it also lets users check warranty status for Macs, AirPods, and Beats headphones and earbuds in System Settings. Apple also fixed an issue that was preventing encrypted external drives from mounting.

With watchOS 10.1, Apple is enabling the new double tap gesture to perform common actions on an Apple Watch without touching its screen. This new double tab gesture is only available on the new Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2, and it works by tapping your index finger and thumb of your watch hand.
