Apple Will Reportedly Launch a New Passwords app for iOS 18 and macOS 15

Apple Passwords app

Apple will reportedly launch a standalone Passwords app on iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15 later this year. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new passwords manager will unveiled during Apple’s WWDC introducing keynote on Monday alongside new AI features coming to recent iPhones, iPads, and Macs.

As you may know, Apple already a built-in passwords manager inside the Settings app for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. This feature leverages the iCloud Keychain to sync passwords and account information accross Apple devices. However, a dedicated app will make the password manager easier to discover, and Apple will need that to better compete with 1Password, LastPass, Proton Pass, and other popular password managers.

“The app features a list of user logins and splits details into different categories, such as accounts, Wi-Fi networks and Passkeys, an Apple-promoted password replacement that relies on Face ID and Touch ID,” Gurman wrote. “Like most password managers, the data can be auto-filled into websites and apps when a user goes to log in.”

According to the report, Apple will make its standalone password manager work on its Vision Pro headset, as well as Windows PCs. In recent years, the company has been taking Windows users more seriously and released iCloud for Windows, Apple Music, and Apple TV apps on the Microsoft Store.

Gurman previously detailed what to expect from Apple’s big AI push at WWDC (), but the reporter shared some additional details today. Apple will reportedly label its new AI features “Apple Intelligence,” and they will launch with a “beta” status. Since the generative AI features will rely on either local NPUs or cloud-based resources, Apple will require users to opt in to use them. AI features will also require an iPhone 15 Pro or an upcoming iPhone 16 model, while iPad and Mac users will need a model with an M1 chip or newer.
