Apple is now making it possible to migrate digital purchases from one Apple account to another (via 9to5Mac). This new feature is now available worldwide except in the EU, the UK, and India.
Digital purchases that can be migrated between Apple accounts include apps, music, movies, TV shows, and books. However, the migration process comes with several asterisks.
As an example, it’s not possible to migrate purchases to an Apple account that has never been used for purchases or free downloads. After purchase migration, the Apple account used to transfer digital content to another can no longer be used for media and purchases.
Overall, Apple recommends users make sure that their “secondary” account used for just media and purchases isn’t part of a different Family Sharing group, and that it’s not being used for Purchase Sharing. Users are also recommended to wait up to 15 days from the last purchase on the secondary account to initiate the migration process to the “primary” Apple account signed in for use with iCloud and other features.
Migrating purchases from one Apple account to another will require iPhone and iPad users to be signed in with both accounts on their devices, and the secondary account has to appear under “Media & Purchases” in the Settings app. Both accounts also need to have 2FA turned on be set to the same country and region for purchases.
When you’re ready to initiate the migration process, here are the steps you need to follow according to Apple :
You can learn more details about this new migration feature on this separate support page. Be aware that if you want to make your secondary Apple Account useable again, it’s also possible to undo the migration of purchases.
