Apple’s plans to refresh more of its Mac models throughout the year could be disrupted by the ongoing memory shortage, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has learned. The Mac Studio, which was last updated a year ago with M4 Max and M3 Ultra chips, could be affected, along with a new version of the MacBook Pro with an OLED touch screen and a next-gen M6 chip.
According to Gurman, Apple initially planned to release new Mac Studio models in the middle of the year, but memory shortages could lead to a several-month delay. “Right now, there’s a belief internally that the new models won’t ship until around October,” the reporter explained.
As for the much-anticipated MacBook Pro with a touch screen, Apple’s reportedly aimed for a release between the end of 2026 and early 2027, but that’s no more guaranteed. According to Gurman, “the products will be ready for fall from a software standpoint, so the later timing would just be tied to supply.”
In addition to new M6 chips and a touchscreen, this new MacBook Pro model is expected to feature the same Dynamic Island interface as recent iPhones to replace the current notch design. There will also be a “hole-punch-sized cutout for the camera” on the new OLED display.
Apple long resisted bringing touchscreens to its laptop line, but Gurman previously reported that the company won’t transform macOS into a touch-first OS. However, Mac users can expect a dynamic UI that will make it easy to switch between touch-based and point-and-click inputs.
