Apple is now allowing app developers to offer annual subscriptions that subscribers will pay for over 12 months. When available, it’s often cheaper to opt for an annual subscription for a service, and this new option will allow people to split the cost with a 12-month commitment.
“This new payment option allows you to offer subscribers more affordable options,” Apple explained in the announcement. “To provide transparency, people can easily view the number of completed and remaining payments for the subscription in their Apple Account. Apple will also send email and, if opted in, push notifications ahead of their renewal date to remind them of their upcoming purchase.”
App developers can test these new monthly subscriptions with a 12-month commitment today in Xcode, but offering them in their apps will be optional. For users, monthly payments will continue until the end of the commitment, even if the subscription is canceled early. If a payment fails, however, they may lose access to their subscription.
Apple also noted that this new type of subscription will be available worldwide on iOS 26.4, iPadOS 26.4, macOS Tahoe 26.4, tvOS 26.4, and visionOS 26.4, except in the US and Singapore. It’s not immediately clear why these two markets will be excluded at launch.
