Microsoft Releases Edge 110 and Drops Support for Windows 7 and 8.1

Microsoft has released the version 110 of its Edge browser yesterday. This is the first version of the web browser to drop support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, and it also brings a new Drop feature as well as two new policies for IT pros.

The Drop feature will allow Edge users to easily “send files and notes across all your signed-in mobile and desktop devices,” Microsoft explained in the release notes. However, the feature doesn’t seem to be available as of this writing.

Microsoft explained that this new Drop feature can be managed from the Edge sidebar, though I haven’t found it there yet on the two devices I’ve checked. Drop will likely roll out to Edge users throughout the month, and it may be a good addition to the not-so-useful apps currently available in the Edge sidebar.

For Edge users signed in with an Azure Active Directory account, Microsoft Edge 110 now enables the syncing of favorites, passwords, browsing history, open tabs, settings, apps, collections, and extensions across all signed-in instances of Edge by default. However, this change won’t affect organizations using the SyncDisabled policy.

Lastly, Microsoft Edge 110 adds two new policies allowing IT pros to control the availability of Grammar Tools and Picture Dictionary features within Immersive Reader. As usual, this Edge update should be installed automatically, but you can force it by checking the edge://settings/help page.

Google also released Chrome 110 earlier this week, and this version brings improvements to the built-in password manager features, as well more granular controls for Google Translate. Just like Microsoft Edge 110, Chrome 110 has now dropped support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.
