Twitter Blue Subscribers Can Now Tweet Up to 10,000 Characters

Twitter is raising the character limit for Twitter Blue subscribers from 4,000 to 10,000. The platform is also adding support for bold and italic text formatting for these long-form tweets.

Character restriction for tweets is pretty much in Twitter’s ADN, and most users would probably say this is what makes the platform pretty unique. However, Even before Musk acquired the company last fall and allowed Twitter Blue subscribers to tweet up to 4,000 characters in February, Twitter had already shown a growing interest in long-form content.

The company first acquired the newsletter platform Revue back in 2021, but it was shut down earlier this year. Twitter has also been experimenting with a long-form Notes feature before the Elon Musk acquisition, but this product has also been discontinued.

In its quest to attract more content creators on the platform, Twitter is also swinging the monetization carrot. The company is relaunching its pre-existing “Super Follows” feature, which lets top creators offer exclusive content through a subscription. Only Twitter users in the U.S. who meet the eligibility requirements can currently apply to participate in the Subscriptions program, and they can choose between the $2.99, $4.99, or $9.99 price points.

Elon Musk also emphasized yesterday that Twitter “will keep none of the money” coming from subscriptions for the next 12 months. “We will also help promote your work. Our goal is to maximize creator prosperity,” Musk also said.
