Elon Musk Details the Two New X Premium Tiers Coming Soon

X Premium

Elon Musk confirmed today that X/Twitter will soon launch two new X Premium tiers. The current X Premium subscription, which is priced at $8/month (or $11/month if you subscribe on mobile) provides a blue checkmark, priority ranking in conversations, half the ads, and other features, and Musk said that the two new tiers will only change the amount of ads subscribers will see.

According to Musk, the first new tier will offer all premium features at a more affordable price point, but with no reduction in ads. The other new tier will also offer all premium features but with no ads at all.

Musk didn’t share pricing details for these new tiers, and we also don’t know yet when they will launch. However, X user @aaronp613 discovered in the app’s code earlier this month that the two new tiers will be named “X Premium Basic” and “X Premium Plus,” while the existing Premium subscription will be rebranded to “Standard.”

Launching these two new tiers may help the company increase its revenue at a time when advertisers are spending less money on X ads. Earlier this week, X also started charging users in New Zealand and the Philippines $1/year to use the platform’s basic features, though the company said that this was only to prevent and “not a profit driver.”

Elon Musk wants X to become an “everything app” where users can also earn money from their content. However, you currently need an X Premium subscription to join the platform’s ad revenue sharing program, and there’s another eligibility threshold with 5 million impressions for your posts within the last 3 months.
