Sony is Discontinuing Twitter/X Integration on PS4 and PS5

PlayStation Twitter integration

Sony is about to discontinue the Twitter/X integration on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles that allowed gamers to share game clips and more on the platform (via Eurogamer). The announcement follows a similar move from Microsoft, which also pulled the plug on a similar Twitter integration on Xbox consoles earlier this year after the platform cut free access to its API.

“As of November 13, 2023, integration with X (formerly known as Twitter) will no longer function on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles. This includes the ability to view any content published on X on PS5/PS4, and the ability to post and view content, trophies, and other gameplay-related activities on X directly from PS5/PS4 or link an X account to do so,” the PlayStation team explained on a support page.

Twitter/X is still a popular destination for sharing game clips, and it’s also set to become a video game streaming platform. Moreover, Elon Musk recently said that the company was planning to support game streaming on PlayStation 5 and Xbox consoles.

However, it looks like Sony discontinuing the Twitter/X integration on PlayStation consoles took Musk by surprise. In a post reacting to this news, Musk said “I will look into this.”

While PlayStation gamers won’t be able to share game clips on Twitter/X from their console after November 13, there’s still a workaround: If you install the PlayStation app on your phone, you can still access your game clips uploaded to the PlayStation Network and share them on social media platforms from there.
