WhatsApp is introducing a more seamless experience for voice chats with larger groups (via TechCrunch). Meta’s popular messaging app already supports group calls with up to 32 participants, but the new experience is designed for even larger groups.
Instead of ringing the phones of all participants, this new group calls experience will start quietly without ringing everyone. Group embers will be able to join the group call by tapping the bubble at the top of the chat.

After joining a WhatsApp voice chat with a large group, users will see call controls at the top of the chat. This will make it easy to mute/unmute themselves or send a message to the group all while staying in the call.
This new voice chat experience for larger groups will start rolling out over the coming weeks on iOS and Android. Again, it will be available first for groups that have more than 33 members.
WhatsApp announced many other updates in recent weeks including multiple account support on Android devices with dual-SIM or eSIM support, a new native Mac app, and an iPad app in beta.
