Microsoft Edge is Moving to a 2-Week Release Cycle in August

Microsoft’s Edge browser will adopt a faster two-week release cycle this summer. The transition will kick off with the release of Microsoft Edge 152, which is set to be released on August 27. However, Microsoft will maintain its Extended Stable Channel for Microsoft Edge that gets updated every eight weeks.

“For customers on Stable, the practical effect of the new cycle is smaller, steadier change. Each release brings about half as much new content as before, delivered twice as often. Security and platform improvements reach your users faster, and each change set is smaller, which can make validation more manageable,” the Microsoft Edge team explained yesterday.

It looks like Microsoft is following Google’s lead, as the Chrome maker first announced in March that its web browser would move to a two-week development cycle starting with Chrome 153 in September 2026. At the time, Google said it wanted to “ensure developers and users have immediate access to the latest performance improvements, fixes and new capabilities.”

The Beta Channels for Microsoft Edge and Chrome will also switch to a 2-week release cycle in September. Microsoft recommends organizations prepare for the faster release schedule by adding a pilot group to the Beta Channel, so they can start testing new features early.
