Microsoft Edge is Adding Support for Google Account Sign-ins

Microsoft Edge Google Account sign in

Microsoft is starting to roll out support for Google account sign-ins in its Edge browser. The new feature is now rolling out gradually to Windows and Mac users running the just-released version 150 of the browser.

I’ve been seeing this new option to sign in to Edge with a Google account on the Canary Channel for quite some time, but it’s not available for me yet on the Stable Channel. When typing on the profile picture icon in the browser, the Google account sign-in option should appear below the Microsoft account option.

It’s nice from Microsoft to give this option to Gmail users that may not want to create a Microsoft account to sync their personal data in Edge. However, I doubt that Google will return the favor to Microsoft and add an MSA sign-in option to its Chrome browser, which remains the clear market leader.

The version 150 of Microsoft Edge also marks the beginning of the retirement of its sidebar’s app list feature. It’s no longer possible to add new apps to this sidebar, and Microsoft said that apps currently pinned in the app tower will be removed in a future update.

Just like Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge will soon switch to a two-week release cycle. This will start on August 27 with the release of Edge version 152, and Microsoft will continue to support its Edge Extended Stable Channel that gets updated every eight weeks.
