Arc Sync Comes to Arc Browser for Mac

Arc Sync for Mac

The Arc web browser now supports Arc Sync, a new sidebar sync feature that replaces the previous Mac-only iCloud sync functionality. Unfortunately, it’s only available for the Mac now, but we’ll the point of this switch is to enable cross-platform sync. So we’ll get it in the Windows version of the browser at some point as well.

“Today, we’re introducing Arc Sync — a new secure sidebar sync, without the need for iCloud — one more step towards making this a reality,” the latest issue of Arc’s email-based newsletter explains. “As we continue building Arc across devices, Arc Sync will one day enable you to connect across them all.”

Arc users on Mac who are using iCloud sync today will want to migrate to Arc Sync as soon as possible because the old code is no longer being maintained. You can do that by updating Arc and then enabling Arc Sync by in settings (⌘ + T > Settings > Turn On). (Windows users access Arc settings by typing Ctrl + T > arc://settings, but this feature isn’t there yet.) Those using Arc on iPhone will be prompted to switch.

According to the Arc Help Center, Arc Sync is encrypted end-to-end, and it currently syncs spaces, folders, and tabs. Support for history, passwords, extensions, favorite tabs, and profiles is coming soon.
