Brave has announced a new Answer with AI feature for its free Brave Search service, the first privacy-preserving AI answer engine at scale.

“The new Brave Search answer engine synthesizes information from multiple sources into a single, intelligible answer to almost any query—a significant step forward from Brave’s AI Summarizer released in 2023,” Brave notes. “Answer with AI produces near instant answers with sources alongside traditional search results. The answers result from the only independent search index at scale outside of Big Tech.”

Answer with AI is free in Brave Search across any web browser on desktop and mobile, Brave notes. Brave Search supports multiple languages, serves 27 million queries a day, and is the fastest-growing search engine since Bing Search. It has an index of over 20 million pages that Brave says have been curated and cleansed of the SEO spam and junk content that plagues other indexes.

Brave added its AI-based Summarizer to Brave Search a bit over a year ago to give users concise answers to queries. But it’s been an AI tear in recent months: Brave announced its Leo AI-based browser assistant in August 2023, and the brought it to its web browser on desktop, Android, iPhone/iPad, and Brave Talk in rapid succession.

Answer with AI expands on Summarizer by providing generative AI answers with up-to-date links and highly relevant results, creating what it calls a next-level search experience. It handles navigation (specific site), informational (specific and more general questions), commercial (product and services research), and transactional (buying a product) queries differently, and defaults to an answer engine experience for those queries it determines to be informational. In other cases, the user can select an “Answer with AI” link.

To experiment with Answer with AI, just access Brave Search in your favorite web browser. As noted, Brave Search and Answer with AI are free, but Brave may offer a paid option with additional premium features in the future.
