Firefox 151 Arrives With VPN Location Selection, AI Control on Mobile, and More

Mozilla announced the release of Firefox 151 today with major updates across desktop and mobile.

Here’s what’s new.

VPN location selection. Mozilla added a free VPN with 50 GB of free data in Firefox 149 in March and then expanded availability to Canada with Firefox 150 in April. Now, you can select the location used by the VPN so you can see local news, shop regionally, or see how content appears in another country. Mozilla will expand location availability in a future release.

Control over AI features on mobile. Mozilla added its (renamed) AI kill switch to the desktop versions of Firefox in February and now a similar set of controls is available on Android, iPhone, and iPad, too. “Depending on your device and region, available controls include features like translations, voice search and Shake to Summarize,” the organization explains. “Preferences can be updated at any time, making it easy to keep only the tools you want to use as new AI-powered features arrive in Firefox.”

Shake to Summarize comes to Android. This feature has been available on iPhone and iPad since last September and it’s rolling out now on Android in English only at first. Additional languages like German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and Japanese, are coming soon.

Private Browsing one-click reset. Firefox 151 now lets you reset a Private Browsing session with a single click of a new fire-shaped toolbar icon. This deletes the cookies, browsing history, logins, and other session data from your private windows without requiring you to close them and reopen them.

Mozilla is also previewing a coming feature that’s available soon in the pre-release Nightly builds of Firefox: A redesigned settings page for the browser that offers improved navigation, clearer organization, and updated labels and descriptions to help make customization easier. This will be enabled by default in Nightly later this week.
