German Government Pays Microsoft Billions € each year

The German government pays the two US companies Microsoft and Oracle a total of around six billion euros for IT services. This is the result of a minor interpellation by Left Party MP Anke Domscheit-Berg, which was made available to ZDFheute.

According to this, the federal government will pay around 1.28 billion euros for Microsoft licenses by 2025. Among other things, Microsoft produces Office software, which is used by the German armed forces, ministries and authorities such as the Federal Employment Agency.

Oracle produces the database software Oracle Database, among other things. The federal government has concluded framework agreements with Oracle for 4.8 billion euros, the contract runs until 2030. Left-wing MP Anke Domscheit-Berg criticizes the sum as “obscenely high”.
