Microsoft Access, does it really need to be in the office suite?

Hey Paul and all,

I was sitting in my dark lab doing my assignments for uni today and as I was going through the start menu , I noticed Microsoft Access was part of my Office suite. I have used MS Access for various reasons of the years and was introduced to it in school back in the 2000s when I was the tender age of 15 , (now I’m 39…yikes) and was was thinking is Microsoft Access actually still a viable product in the office suite these days? Given that most database software is probably hosted in the cloud, and there are some alternative ones out there, I do wonder if Microsoft Access does still have a place in the office suite?

Obviously I compare this with the announcement that MS Publisher is going away ,and I thought would be worth getting some thoughts from other MS Office users, even from a business owner’s perspective and tech enthusiast, and maybe Paul. 🙂

I’m mucking around with MS Access for one of my home lab projects. (NT Server, WinNT4, Office 2000) – I do this just to keep my brain from turning to mush. (and to have some fun while studying law and society at Uni)

Kind Regards

Dan
