Amazon Will Publish the Next Tomb Raider Game

Amazon will be the publisher of the next Tomb Raider game that’s currently being developed by Crystal Dynamics. This is pretty big news for Amazon Games, a division that had yet to publish a blockbuster game of this caliber.

“Tomb Raider is one of the most beloved IPs in entertainment history,” said Christoph Hartmann, VP of Amazon Games. “Amazon Games is committed to bringing players games of the highest quality, from the best developers, across all variety of platforms and genres, and we’re honored by the opportunity to work with this storied developer and franchise.”

The next Tomb Raider game has been announced during Epic Games’ State of 2022 presentation back in April, but it doesn’t have a title yet. However, we already know that it will be multiplatform and made with Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5.

The Tomb Raider series had a successful reboot in 2013, but the franchise has been dormant since the release of Shadow of the Tomb Raider back in 2018. Its developer Crystal Dynamics was also sold by Square Enix Europe to Embracer Group earlier this year. The studio has apparently found a good publishing partner with Amazon Games.

“With Amazon Games, we found a team that shares our creative vision, ambitions, and values for a Lara Croft universe across the spectrum of possibilities. They’re uniquely positioned to rewrite what publishing and development collaborations are, and we’re eager to forge this new path together, starting with building the biggest and best Tomb Raider game yet,” said Scot Amos, head of Crystal Dynamics.

In addition to this publishing deal with Crystal Dynamics for this new Tomb Raider game, Amazon Games also teamed up with Bandai Namco to release Blue Protocol, a free-to-play multiplayer game in the west in the second half of 2023.
