Microsoft’s Latest Xbox Controller Includes Recycled Materials and a Rechargeable Battery

Microsoft announced today the Xbox Remix Special Edition Controller, which will be released a couple of days ahead of World Earth Day. Each of these controllers is made in part from post-consumer recycled resins from reclaimed materials including Xbox One controllers, and this contributes to making every unit pretty unique.

“Mixing post-consumer recycled resins with regrind consisting of previously molded colored parts creates custom, earth-tone colors with subtle variations, swirling, markings, and texturing – giving each Remix Special Edition controller its own look and feel, the Xbox team explained. The list of recycled materials used in these controllers includes automotive headlight covers, plastic water jugs, and CDs.

Each unit also includes an Xbox Rechargeable Battery Pack delivering up to 30 hours of battery life per charge. That’s why this Special Edition Controller is coming at $84.99, which is a bit more expensive than other Special Edition Controllers.

The Xbox Remix Special Edition Controller is now available for pre-order and will start shipping on April 18. The Rechargeable Battery pack can still be purchased standalone for $24.99.

‘By incorporating these regrind materials, post-consumer recycled resins, and including the Xbox Rechargeable Battery Pack – Xbox is exploring ways to use less new plastic and reduce waste,” the Xbox team emphasized today. Microsoft is taking other steps to reduce its carbon footprint, such as offering offers refurbished Xbox Series X|S consoles on its Microsoft Store. A recent Xbox update also added support for carbon-aware downloads for games and apps.
