Microsoft Starts Testing Xbox Game Streaming to Discord

Microsoft is improving the Discord integration on Xbox consoles in a pretty big way. The company has started testing Xbox game streaming to Discord with select Xbox Insiders, offering a native alternative to game streaming on Twitch.

Discord already allows PC and mobile users to stream games to a Discord server or a direct message conversation. This is different from Twitch streams, which are public by default. Twitch is be the biggest streaming platform market, but it’s not for everyone, and streaming on Discord may offer a more intimate experience.

Xbox game streaming to Discord will allow Xbox gamers to stream their games to a voice channel in a server, a direct message, or a group conversation. To start a stream, Xbox users will need to open the Parties & Chats tab in the Xbox Guide, select Discord, then pick up a voice channel in a server.

The process for streaming a game to a Discord DM or group DM will require the Discord app on desktop or mobile, however. After joining a call in the app, Xbox users will need to use the “Transfer to Xbox” button to move their DM conversation to their console, and the “Stream your game” option will then appear in the Xbox Guide.

Xbox streaming to Discord is rolling out first to Xbox Insiders in the Alpha Skip-Ahead and Alpha rings. Unfortunately, streaming games in 1080p/60FPS quality requires a Discord Nitro subscription ($9.99/month).
