Quake II was originally released back in 1997, at a time were many great shooters were released on PC. I remember briefly playing Quake II back in the day, but I was personally more of an Unreal/Half-Life fan. Anyway, it’s good to see this classic shooter get the same remaster treatment that the original Quake game received back in 2021. In you missed it earlier this month, I also recommend reading Paul’s article about John Romero’s definitive history of Wolfenstein 3-D, DOOM, and Quake.

On Xbox consoles, this enhanced version of Quake II supports split-screen multiplayer with up to 4 players on Xbox One and up to 8 players on Xbox Series X|S. The Xbox One version runs at 60FPS at 1080p, while the Xbox Series X|S version supports 120FPS gameplay at up to 4K resolution.

Bethesda says that this Quake II remaster also includes the Nintendo 64 port, which also comes with modern enhancements. If you have Xbox Game Pass, you play Quake II on Xbox, PC, and Xbox Cloud Gaming right now.
