Minecraft Live 15th Anniversary

Minecraft developer Mojang Studios has just wrapped up its annual Minecraft Live digital event, which was packed with updates for the popular sandbox game and its latest spin-off, the action-strategy game Minecraft Legends. Minecraft will actually celebrate its 15th anniversary in November, and Mojang announced today that the game crossed a new milestone with 300 million copies sold since launch.

“As we approach the 15th anniversary, Minecraft remains one of the best-selling games of all time, with over 300 million copies sold, a milestone no one could have dreamed of when we were all placing our first blocks, said Helen Chiang, CVP of the Minecraft Franchise and Head of Mojang Studios. “Our incredible community has built Minecraft into what it is today and what it will become in the future. We can’t wait to share new Minecraft content and experiences in the years ahead.”

To celebrate the 15th anniversary of Minecraft, the game will receive various updates in the coming weeks and months. Here is what to expect:

New Star Wars: Path of the Jedi DLC: Coming to the Minecraft Marketplace on November 7, this new DLC will introduce new Star Wars-themed gameplay features such as lightsaber combat and Force powers.

Minecraft Vanilla Update 1.21: This update coming in mid-2024 will introduce automated crafting, a new type of challenge named Trial chambers, and more.

As for Minecraft Legends, the new strategy game released on all consoles and PC earlier this Spring, the game will be getting new “Lost Legends” monthly free challenges. “Creeper Clash” will kick off on October 19 ahead of Halloween, and “Snow vs Snout” has already been announced for December. During the Minecraft Live event today, we’ve also learned that an update coming in December will introduce frogs, new piglin unit and structure, and new witch allies.
