Google Play Games PC Beta Adds 4K Resolution and Controllers Support

The Google Play Games PC Beta is adding new features this week to make the experience of playing Android mobile games on a bigger screen more PC-like. While mouse and keyboard input was already supported, Google is adding support for game controllers on select games.

The list of supported controllers includes Microsoft’s Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S controllers as well as Sony’s PS4 and PS5 controllers. While Google didn’t share a full list of compatible games, Asphalt 9: Legends and BADLAND are two Android games you can play with a controller on your Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC.

Google said that there are now 3,000 games available with the Google Play Games PC Beta, with synced progress between Android and Windows. Starting today, the popular real-time strategy games Clash of Clans and Clash Royale are also available via the beta client.

Moreover, players now get to choose between different screen resolutions in games by pressing Shift + Tab. “Google Play Games now offers up to 4K screen resolution on supported monitors, making games that support higher-quality graphics look stunning on a big screen,” said Arjun Dayal, Director of Product, Google Play Games

With new games being added to the library on a regular basis, Google also finally added a search bar to the Google Play Games beta app. It has been a top requested feature from beta testers, and it can be found at the top of the “All games” section.

The Google Play Games PC beta is now available in more than 100 regions, and you can download the client here. You’ll need a Windows 10 PC with a 4-core CPU and a minimum of 8GB of RAM to test it, and you’ll also need to enable hardware virtualization on your device to run Android games.
