Sony Announces PlayStation 5 Technical Presentation Tomorrow, September 10

PlayStation 5 Technical Presentation September 10

After previous reports suggesting that Sony could announce its PlayStation 5 Pro in the first half of December, it looks like tomorrow, September 10 will be the day. The company has just announced a PlayStation 5 Technical presentation at 8 AM PDT featuring PlayStation Lead Architect Mark Cerny.

“The 9-minute Technical Presentation will focus on PS5 and innovations in gaming technology,” the brief announcement detailed. Sony mentioning that the stream will only last 9 minutes suggests it’s pre-recorded and should go straight to the point. The stream will be broadcast on the PlayStation YouTube channel at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET / 4 PM BST.

The specs of the PlayStation 5 Pro have already leaked earlier this year, and the console’s design also leaked two weeks ago. The PlayStation 5 Pro will look very similar to the PS5 and PS5 Slim, with the main differences being three black stripes in the middle of the white side panels.

Under the hood, the PS5 Pro will reportedly use the same CPU as the regular model, adding a “high CPU frequency mode” providing a 10% speed boost. The GPU will deliver 33.5 teraflops of computing power (up from 10.28 teraflops on the regular PS5), and the console is also expected to introduce a new upscaling/antialiasing solution called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).

Overall, the console should be able to reach 4K/60 FPS more easily than the regular PS5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X. Microsoft has been marketing the Series X as the most powerful console on the market since the beginning of this console generation. Still, the company isn’t planning a mid-gen upgrade. The only new Xbox consoles coming this holiday season are an all-digital white Xbox Series X and a 2TB model with a disc drive.
