Nvidia Launches Native GeForce NOW App on Linux

Nvidia GeForce NOW Linux app

Nvidia has just released a native Linux app for GeForce NOW, its popular cloud gaming service. The beta app was announced earlier this month alongside the version 4.5 of Nvidia’s DLSS technology, and it supports Ubuntu 24.04 and later.

“This new desktop-focused app goes beyond the earlier Linux experience that was tuned specifically for Steam Decks, which targeted handheld-friendly resolutions and up to 1200p at 90 fps. The beta Linux app is built for PCs and notebooks, offering an experience similar to the existing GeForce NOW app on Windows and macOS,” the company explained today.

Nvidia’s GeForce NOW is available on the web, but there are also native apps for Windows and macOS. To get started, gamers just need to connect their Steam/Epic Games/Ubisoft Connect/Xbox PC libraries in the app and start streaming eligible games.

As of today, Nvidia has the best cloud gaming service on the market, with the $19.99/month Ultra tier offering up to 5K resolution and 120 frames per second. There’s also a cheaper $9.99/month Performance tier with up to 1440p/60FPS performance, and a free ad-supported tier with up to 1080p/60FPS performance. Microsoft is reportedly planning to launch a similar free ad-supported tier for its rival Xbox Cloud Gaming service.
