Microsoft Store Offers Back-to-School Deals

The Microsoft Store has launched its annual back-to-school sale, offering great deals on Surface devices, PCs, Xbox One, and more.

“Sales during the back to school shopping season will reach an estimated $857.18 billion, accounting for 17 percent of total retail sales for the year with great demand for computers and consumer electronics during the season,” a Microsoft representative told me. “Today, Microsoft Store announced back to school deals to help students and young professionals start new adventures and make ideas happen.”

You can find out more about the sale on the Microsoft Store online, or at a local Microsoft retail store. But here’s a rundown of some of the deals:

Surface Pro 4 and Type Cover (black). Surface Pro 4 with a black Type Cover (Core i5, 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB of SSD storage) is just $999, or $899 if you’re a student. That is a great price for that configuration.

Surface Book. You can save up to $150 on Surface Book, with a temporary new base price of $1350.

Free Groove Music Pass. Buy any Surface device and receive a three month Groove Music Pass membership.

Free Intel Software Starter Pack. Buy an eligible PC—including Dell XPS 15, Dell XPS 13, HP Spectre x360 and Lenovo Yoga 910—and get a free Intel Software Starter Pack that’s worth $429.

Xbox One S. You can save up to $20 on select Xbox One S 500 GB consoles, including the Xbox One S Battlefield 1 Bundle, Xbox One S Battlefield 1 Special Edition Bundle, and Xbox One S Forza Horizon 3 Bundle.

There’s a lot more. Be sure to check out the Microsoft Store website for other deals.

I used my student discount when purchasing the Surface Laptop and it saved me a ton of money. This makes the base price of Surface Laptop $899, which is a bit more reasonable for that configuration. I also own the base model and I am happy to report that it is still super fast for all I need it to do, I think people recommending the 8gb configuration need to realize that students may not need 8 or 16 GB, 4 GB seems to be plenty for me, and for many other students I talk to on a daily basis. Just my 2 cents!

Do students need 2 Surface devices? If some believe they do, is it really unreasonable others might believe they need only one but with more RAM?

Thats a big assumption, probably not considering they are mostly living off student loans and maybe a part time job. (9 students have Macbook Airs, 3 have Surface Pros, and lots have chromebooks, because, and I quote: they're cheap!.) Only one student I am at school with I know has another laptop, a Mac, because his work provides it. Myself, a different story. I have base models of all three current Surface devices, and I can vouch they work just great for everything I do. I don't play games at all, beyond new Microsoft Ultimate Word Game (which is awesome!), but for all normal use (typing paper in word, using excel, watching videos and listening to music) it's fast enough for me and the best deal.

All the negative talk on the base model Surface Laptops and other Surface devices is mostly power users bitching, or normal users wanting more value and higher specs, they don't even try those models out they just condemn them immediately. They are perfect for students, as long as they are using Windows 10 Pro as to accomodate for non Store apps, which they 99.9% will want to do.

I also want to add here that you can't use Photoshop Elements from the store on a surface laptop because it only runs on 64 bit. ( Just a word of advice for those wanting to use that combo. Free upgrade to Pro on SL is necessary.)

Well It’s not terrible at all, and getting better. The song selection is pretty good, but features lack a bit to pay for assignment behind some of the other leaders. The mobile app still has one really annoying problem. But, I fund it and through Bing Rewards, and I like being able to mix my music on OneDrive with subscription stuff on all my devices. I will probably wait to see if there’s a good holiday deal this year.

Before making a beeline for school or setting out on that initial quest for new employment, there is a minute where the fervor, seek after the future and yearning to learn is engaging, Online Essay Writing Service and Microsoft Store is the best place to find and buy the innovation to enable you to accomplish more.

Do students really spend this type of money on a device, even 'discounted'? That's still a serious amount of cash - unless they've got minted parents. I'd have thought they'd have been looking at the sub $300 category, or Chromebooks these days.

What is this "Free Intel Software Starter Pack" deal? What could Intel have that could possibly cost $429 other than maybe 5 years of McAfee garbage?

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16800985052 gives more info than Intel's own site. [You can tell they're a MSFT partner.]

Looks like a bunch of games, true necessities for students. Then again, silly me wondering why the heck Xbox anything is back-to-school.
