Meta Drops the Price of its Quest 2 Headset to $199

Meta Quest 2

Meta announced another permanent price cut for its Quest 2 VR headset, with the 128GB model now being available for just $199. Meta had previously dropped the price of this model from $299 to $249 on January 2.

The Meta Quest 2 (fomerly Oculus Quest 2) originally launched back in October 2020, and it’s still the most popular VR headset in Steam’s latest hardware survey with a 37.8% usage share. Meta emphasized that the headset is currently “the most affordable way to tap into everything VR has to offer,” with “no TV, console, battery pack, or wires required.”

Unlike the more recent Meta Quest 3, which is a mixed reality headset that lets users see their surroundings, the Meta Quest 2 is an old-school VR headset providing a more isolating experience. However, it still has decent specs in 2024 with LCD panels with a 1832×1920 resolution per eye and an up to 90 Hz refresh rate. There are over 500 VR games to check out in the Meta Quest Store, and Xbox Cloud Gaming is also supported.

To sweeten the pot, Meta has also dropped the price of various Quest 2 accessories. The Carrying Case and Fit Pack are now priced at $19.99, while the Elite Strap and Elite Strap with Battery now cost $24.99 and $44.99, respectively. It looks like these price cuts on Meta Quest 2 accessories are also permanent.
