Eero Ships 4G/LTE Cellular Backup Solution for Mesh Wi-Fi

Back in September, Eero announced its Eero Signal family of cellular backup solutions for its home mesh Wi-Fi systems. At the time, it promised 5G and 4G/LTE versions of the product, and the first of those, the 4G/LTE version, is now available.

“Now available for purchase on eero.com and amazon.com, Eero Signal 4G LTE provides peace of mind with dedicated cellular backup connectivity for your entire Eero network whenever your primary internet connection goes down,” Eero writes in the announcement post. “Simply connect it to a compatible Eero, add an annual Eero Plus subscription in the app for backup data, and you’re set.”

Eero Signal provides backup Internet connectivity for your entire Eero mesh wireless network, and the system will switch to that automatically if your main Internet connection goes down. When the Internet returns, Eero will likewise move back to that automatically.

Eero Signal requires a USB-C-powered Eero that supports Wi-Fi 6 and up. Eero Signal 4G LTE costs $99.99, and the required Eero Plus subscription is $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year and provides 10 GB of backup data per year. But you can also upgrade to Eero Plus 100 for 100 GB of backup data per month for $199.99 per year, and Eero Signal buyers get 6 months of that service for free, after which they can pay $99.99 for the next 6 months.

Eero Signal 5G is coming soon, too, Eero says.

“The key difference is that it can operate on the growing number of 5G networks as well as 4G LTE networks, offering broader compatibility,” Eero explains. “The 4G LTE version provides similar backup functionality at a more affordable price. Both versions were designed with a singular goal: To keep you working, streaming, and playing when your primary internet goes out—like a backup generator for your internet.”
