Samsung is Ending Sales of its $2,899 Galaxy Z TriFold

Samsung is stopping sales of its $2,899 Galaxy Z TriFold, its ultra-premium foldable phone that launched in the US back in January. Bloomberg is reporting that the phone is currently out of stock on Samsung’s website, though enthusiasts may still be able to find units at Samsung Experience Stores across the US.

A Samsung spokesperson told Bloomberg that the company will be ending sales of the Galaxy Z TriFold in South Korea, where the premium device first launched in December. The US market will follow once all inventory has been sold out in the country.

The limited release of the Galaxy Z TriFold and its very high price suggest that Samsung was well aware it wasn’t going to sell many units. Moreover, the foldable device was only available for purchase directly from Samsung, with no distribution deals with mobile carriers or retailers.

The Galaxy Z TriFold features a 6.5-inch external display and a 10-inch display when unfolded, which can be transformed into a portable workstation with Samsung’s Dex software. The device is also powered by a custom Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, a large 5600 mAh battery, 16 GB of RAM, and up to 1 TB of storage.

While the market for ultra-premium foldable phones appears to be very small, Samsung is still selling the more affordable Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7, which will likely be refreshed later this year. Apple is also expected to release its first foldable phone later this year, which may be priced around $2,000.
