Microsoft To-Do Gets Tagging Support

Microsoft’s To-Do app has been getting a lot of new features after the lack of updates for a long period. The app picked up a new dark theme, list sharing, steps, and other features across all platforms as part of the latest set of updates. And now, Microsoft is adding support for tagging to the app.

Tagging support is meant to help you better organize your tasks. Of course, you can already create lists within the app to organize your different tasks into different lists. But the new tagging feature is supposed to organize tasks from different lists into different types of tasks. These tags can be added right to the title of your task, or in the description of the tasks which is pretty neat.

There doesn’t seem to be a way of seeing all the different tags you have, though. When you click on a tag from a note, it will take you a search page where you can see all the other tasks with the same tag. The ability to view tasks with certain tags is powered by the search feature, so you can even search for tags with multiple tags if you want. Considering how poor the implementation of some Microsoft apps’ features was in the past, I was almost sure this wouldn’t work, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Oh, and, for those running into syncing issues with their accounts, Microsoft says there’s a new feature in the account menu of the app which lets you directly rectify such issues.

Tagging support is only available for the Windows 10 app right now, though you can be sure it will make its way to other platforms in the near future. In the meantime, you can try it out with the Windows 10 app here.

<p>I am seeing the tagging support in the iOS beta app too.</p><p><br></p><p>Also this is so sad to see how poorly To-Do still lags behind Wunderlist over a year later. Wunderlist had tagging years ago. This app is the latest in a long history of Microsoft buying their way into a market, then stumbling, stalling, and eventually giving up because their offering was so far behind because Microsoft didn't invest enough resources to be successful.</p>

    <p>Tagging isn't new… I've been using it for a while now.</p>

<p>I don't know how I missed this when it went live, but this week I realised tasks in Microsoft To-Do are syncing into the Tasks folder in Outlook.com.</p><p>That opens up a lot more functionality – email rules, Microsoft Flow, IFTTT…</p>

Of course it is not a list of just tags but all items with the tag in it. for instance if you place a tag in a note it will find that to. That may be useful.</span></p>

<p>You can find all your #tags by simply going to search and type #. They all appear. That suits well, I think. </p><p><br></p><p>But I take your point. It would be a bit better if we could go to, say, a #tag page, where all the #tags are all listed, and where we could delete a #tag or maybe rename them for all occurrences. </p><p><br></p><p>Regardless, it is a good addition. </p>
