Google Brings Movie Editor to ChromeOS

Google has rolled out its Google Photos-based movie editor for ChromeOS, giving users a way to create movies automatically or manually.

“The new Google Photos movie editor for ChromeOS is now rolled out to all Chromebook users,” a Google representative told me. “It’s a great way for folks to create some auto-generated movies of their friends, family, and pets, or start a movie from scratch. Should help for all the folks looking for a good way to get started on movie editing on their Chromebooks.”

Google announced the movie editor last July, noting that it would be made available via the (Android-based) Google Photos app and not the Google Photos website. The functionality started rolling out in late 2022 and is now available to all Chromebook users.

You can get started with the movie editor works in two ways: you can search for and select one or more videos in your library and then click “Create or add to album” (“+”) and then Movie, or you can navigate into Utilities > Movie, select a theme and then the people and/or pets you want included (or, just select the photos and videos you want to use), and let the editor create a movie for you. (You can, of course, edit the movie later too.)

The movie editor also lets you edit videos and photos directly. You can trim your video clips, add filters, and adjust the brightness, contrast, and more.
