Surface Book 2 Joins the Party, Gets Massive Set of Updates

Thinking About Surface Book 2 Specs and Configurations

Following on the heels of Surface Pro 4, Surface Laptop, and Surface Pro (2017), Surface Book 2 has just received a similarly massive set of firmware updates.

“On August 1st we released updates for Surface Book 2 devices running Windows 10 Fall Creators Update version 1709 or greater to Windows Update,” Microsoft’s Scott McArthur writes in the Surface Blog for IT Pros. “These updates provide improvements to system stability and reliability, and resolve potential security vulnerabilities including Microsoft security advisory ADV180012 and ADV180013.”

The Surface Book 2 has been an amazing machine for me. It just feels more reliable than my original SB, which really only had the "hot bag" problem that never got fixed.

The only problem I've had with the Surface Book 2 (posted in the Thurrott forums too) was that it wasn't powering on with the power button after sleep or power down. It would only power on if you held down for 12 seconds and tried again or detached the screen and re-attached the screen. The fix was to remove the NIVIDIA device (it was greyed out), run SFC /SCANNOW and reboot…I've not had the problem sense.

And it was reported problem with most people never finding a fix. I hope the latest firmware updates help fix this.

Side note – I did had to reboot 3 times on this firmware update. It applied a few at a time, resulting in 3 reboots…

After this firmware update the battery started charging normally again.

Just downloaded and installed these this morning, and it sent my computer into a Bitlocker screen. I only have personal accounts, so I have no idea why I'm seeing this or how to fix it.

In reply to Brian_Menzie:

This happened to me on my Surface Pro 4 several weeks ago. From the start menu type bitlocker, then choose Manage Bitlocker. Click "Suspend protection". When the status changes, click to resume protection.

I haven't seen the problem since, so this reset seems to work.

Surface Laptop got the update… bricked my device. MS Support told me it was a known issue with this update – something to do with the firmware update with the SSD. MS Store in Canada no longer has the Surface Laptop for sale – must be a major issue. I'm being asked to upgrade to the Surface Pro or Surface Book 2 13"….which to choose…
