Microsoft's New Lumia Flagships Are Outted

Anxious for news about Microsoft’s promised new Lumia flagships? Recently-leaked photos reveal exactly what you can expect from Talkman and Cityman.

Oddly, there is still some confusion over the final branding of the products, which will be either Lumia 940 and 940 XL or Lumia 950 and 950 XL. But I can confirm that the leaked photos we see today are real, and represent the final, shipping devices.

As noted previously in Microsoft’s New Lumia Flagships Revealed, the new Lumias are codenamed Talkman (940/950) and Cityman (940 XL/950 XL). Talkman is a smart phone with a 5.2-inch screen and a 20 MP PureView camera, shown here in this leaked photo.

And Cityman is the phablet, with a 5.7-inch screen and a 20 MP PureView camera with triple flash.

These photos—which are no doubt from Microsoft’s press materials for the devices, were leaked on Twitter by Evleaks.

Additionally, a German podcast called OneCast has revealed the first real photo of the upcoming Continnum dock (codenamed Munchkin) for Cityman, which will allow that device to function much like a desktop PC with attached keyboard, mouse and screen.

As for the timing, I was told by a highly-placed source at Microsoft that the new Lumias would be announced at an event in September in New York City. Since then, there have been rumors of a consolidated Microsoft hardware launch—including the new Lumias, new Surface Pro(s), and Microsoft Band 2—in October. I can’t confirm that Microsoft plans to announce all three together, but I was previously told that Surface Pro 4 and Band 2 would launch in October.
