Spotify Adds New Controls to its Discover Weekly Playlist

Spotify Discover Weekly controls

Spotify is giving its popular Discover Weekly playlist a fresh coat of paint to celebrate its 10th anniversary. The automated playlist is getting a new design on mobile, plus granular controls allowing users to fine-tune what they’d like to hear.

“Starting today and rolling out on mobile over the coming weeks, new controls at the top of your playlist let you guide the vibe with a simple tap. Choose from up to five genre options, personalized based on your listening history, and you’ll get a fresh 30-track playlist inspired by your selection,” the company explained today.

These new controls for Spotify’s Discover Weekly playlist will be rolling out first to Premium subscribers. The playlist will continue to be refreshed every Monday with music recommendations tailored to users’ tastes.

Over the last 10 years, Spotify said that its Discover Weekly playlist resulted in more than 100 billion tracks streamed, with over 56 million new artist discoveries on average. Spotify has since launched other personalized playlists such as Release Radar and daylist. More recently, the company has been leveraging generative AI technology to launch a new AI DJ and AI playlist in select markets. The latter lets users create a playlist by just describing the type of music they’d like to listen to.
