Tips and picks

Tip of the week: Consolidating email

Thanks to Google’s decision to kill Inbox, I’m reexamining other email services. First up is Outlook.com and Outlook Mobile, which raises a classic issue from the past: Is it better to forward email from Service A to Service B, or use Service B to pull email from Surface A?

App pick of the week: Microsoft Studio games on Steam and PC disc

Not a fan of Windows 10/Microsoft Store? You can get some top MS games now elsewhere too

Plus: Forza Horizon 4 can be preordered, is coming soon – Don’t forget this deal, valid through the end of the month.

Enterprise pick of the week: Microsoft’s post-mortem on its September 4 cloud outage

Microsoft doesn’t often do public post-mortems of its outages of its cloud services. (VSTS is the one notable exception.) But the company did do so for its September 4 cloud outage. The good news: Those affected are going to be compensated.

Codename pick of the week: Modern Workplace as a Service

Modern Workplace as a Service was the codename for Microsoft Managed Desktop. MWaaS doesn’t roll right off the tongue, but some MS resellers actually ended up using this name in marketing their own version of MMD.

Beer pick of the week: Cigar City Maduro Brown

Since we’ll be in Florida next week, here’s a beer pick from a Tampa, Fla. Brewery, Cigar City, that happens to be one of the best known craft breweries here in the U.S.  Cigar City Maduro Brown is an excellent English brown-style ale with coffee, toffee flavor. Easy drinking and worth a try.
