Microsoft is apparently planning to name the next version of Windows 11 (22H2) the “2022 Update.” Earlier today, one of our readers testing the update on his PC saw a message in the Get Started app promoting the “Windows 11 2022 Update.”

“You’re now running the Windows 11 2022 Update! Read on to discover new features and set things up just how you like,” the message in Microsoft’s Get Started app reads.

With Windows 11 being a brand new OS, it wasn’t clear how Microsoft would name the major updates set to arrive every year in the fall season. The latest update for Windows 10 was named the “Windows 10 November 2021 Update,” but Microsoft is apparently simplifying its naming convention for major Windows 11 updates with a slightly shorter “Windows 11 2022 Update”.

According to a previous report, Microsoft could start rolling out this update as soon as September 20, 2022. We’ll see what happens, but you can already test the next version of Windows 11 by joining the Windows Insider Release Preview ring, and Paul has already written a detailed review of it.

Do you think “Windows 11 2022 Update” is a good name, or do you think something more creative would have been preferable? Let us know in the comments below.
