Windows 11 Insider Builds 22621.1616 and 22624.1616 Land on the Beta Channel

Microsoft has just made the Windows 11 builds 22621.1616 and 22624.1616 available for Beta Channel testers. This time, there are no new features shipping to just one group of Insiders, except that the group receiving the build 22624.1616 will get to test new Live Captions languages.

Live Captions is a new accessibility feature that launched with Windows 11 version 22H2 last year, and it can provide automatic captions for all audio content that’s playing on your PC. As of today, Live Captions only support English (US) content for non-Insiders, but today’s build 22624.1616 adds support for Danish, English (Ireland), French (Canada), Korean, and Portuguese (Portugal).

Last week, Beta Channel Insiders also got to test a new toggle under Settings > Windows Update for “getting the latest updates as soon as they are available”. With today’s build 22624.1616, Microsoft says that turning on the new toggle will download a “Windows configuration update” to test the company’s backend services.

The purpose of this new toggle is to allow Beta Channel Insiders to download an enablement package to enable new Windows 11 features in a heartbeat. In the meantime, Beta Channel testers who are in the group with new features turned off by default (Build 22621.xxxx) can also check for updates and choose to join the other group (Build 22624.xxxx) that has new features rolling out.

The release notes for today’s build 22624.1616 also mention a fix for an issue that was causing an unusual amount of File Explorer crashes. Microsoft also addressed another issue where the touch keyboard didn’t correctly recognize that a hardware keyboard was available.

In case you missed it yesterday, Microsoft also released two new builds for the Canary and Dev channels. The main changes include a new setting for turning off HDR when a PC is running on battery, as well as a new option to diagnose network problems right from the system tray.
